Tutorials  are free for members, and advertised events open to the public will have  a small entry fee for non members of typically around $30 each, depending on the topic, and can be paid for on the night.

Light Painting - Live Workshop

Step into the night and learn how to paint with light. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll experiment with light wands and long exposure techniques to create magical trails, shapes and patterns that transform ordinary scenes into glowing works of art. We’ll guide you through camera settings, focusing in the dark and creative ideas so you can confidently capture your own light movement masterpieces.

Take the mystery out of editing and feel more at home in Lightroom and Photoshop. In this relaxed, practical workshop we’ll walk through simple workflows, essential tools and time-saving tips to help you bring out the best in your images. You’ll learn how to make confident adjustments, from basic tweaks to creative edits, so post-production becomes an enjoyable and empowering part of your photography.

Phone photography

Discover how to take beautiful photos with the camera you always have with you. In this beginner-friendly workshop for both Android and iPhone users, we’ll cover simple techniques for composition, lighting and focus, plus how to make the most of your phone’s built-in camera settings. You’ll leave with practical tips and greater confidence to capture everyday moments, landscapes and people straight from your phone.

Mountain Lake Reflection

SEPT 14,  2026 7pm at the Omokoroa Sports Pavilion

Landscape

We will cover how to see strong compositions, work with changing light and weather, and make the most of your camera settings to capture mood and detail.  This session is suitable for all levels, from beginners to experienced photographers wanting fresh inspiration on landscape photography.

Portrait Of Woman

OCTOBER 29th, 7pm at the Omokoroa Sports Pavilion

Portraiture

Discover the techniques for capturing people at their best. In this portrait tutorial we’ll share practical tips on finding flattering light, choosing simple backgrounds, and guiding natural poses so your subjects feel relaxed. You’ll learn how to notice small details, work with different angles and use your camera settings to create portraits that feel honest, warm and full of personality.

Fungi in Mokaihaha Doc Track, Mamaku 8am to 4pm

Join our club field trip to the Mokaihaha Doc Track, Mamaku to discover the striking blue mushroom - Enteloma Blue and other unique fungi. This immersive experience focuses on looking closely at the finer details of the forest floor, where you'll learn techniques for working with low light and mastering close-up compositions. This trip is designed for photographers of all levels, providing a supportive environment to develop your macro skills while capturing nature's hidden gems. Astro photography

June 25, 2026

Join us as we explore the wonders of the night sky  at local dark spots in this inviting Astro photography workshop. You’ll learn the art of focusing in the dark and using long exposures to capture stars with stunning clarity. Designed to be suitable for all levels, this workshop provides a supportive environment to master the techniques needed for beautiful celestial imagery.
